Ebola Doctor Cured, Released from NYC Hospital
Dr. Craig Spencer was deemed cured and released from New York’s Bellevue Hospital Center on Nov. 11 after receiving 19 days of treatment to overcome an Ebola infection.
Spencer, 33, was infected while battling the virus as part of a Doctors Without Borders team in Guinea, one of three West African nations at the heart of the Ebola outbreak. Spencer told a crowd of reporters and well-wishers that his recovery showed the efficacy of early detection and treatment.
Spencer was the last known Ebola patient in the United States, though health officials continue to monitor people at risk of infection.
