Mobile Field Hospitals and Deployment
A BLU-MED® mobile field hospital is a rapidly deployable, modular medical facility that can support triage, emergency care, surgery, critical care, inpatient care, and isolation when permanent healthcare infrastructure is damaged, unavailable, or overwhelmed.
Deployment time depends on the facility size, configuration, staffing, site preparation, and logistics. Individual turnkey facilities may be operational within hours of arrival, while larger BLU-MED® field hospitals are designed to become operational within approximately 72 hours of site arrival.
Yes. Modular configurations support 15- to 100-bed field hospitals, and multiple facilities can be combined for 200- to 300-bed or larger responses. Beds, clinical modules, and support areas can be expanded as needs change.
A turnkey facility can include medical shelters, environmental control, electrical distribution, lighting, and selected clinical modules. Equipment packages, delivery, installation, staff housing, warehouses, offices, and other support resources are also available based on the project scope.
Capabilities can include triage, emergency and acute care, intensive care, surgery, negative-pressure isolation, inpatient wards, pharmacy, laboratory, diagnostics, administration, command, logistics, and staff-rest areas.
Governments, militaries, hospitals and health systems, emergency-management agencies, first responders, and relief organizations use our rapidly deployable medical facilities for disaster response, infectious-disease outbreaks, military medical operations, hospital surge capacity, humanitarian missions, and temporary care when fixed facilities cannot meet demand.
Medical Shelter Systems and Options
The BLU-MED® XP Medical Shelter System is a rapidly deployable, rigid-frame medical shelter. It is 20 feet wide, available in multiple lengths, and has a 10-foot peak height. A 20-foot by 32.5-foot model provides 650 square feet of interior space, and a trained team can set it up in less than 15 minutes.
BLU-MED® medical shelters are engineered systems built for repeat deployment, environmental control, clinical layouts, and demanding weather conditions. Their self-standing rigid frames do not require continuously operating blowers to remain upright.
Yes. Portable Environmental Control Units (ECUs) can be matched to a single medical shelter, an isolation facility, a hospital surge facility, or a complete mobile hospital to provide heating, cooling, and air movement for patient-care environments.
Our medical shelters can be packed in person-carry bags or reusable, stackable rotomolded containers. Depending on the configuration, systems can travel by fixed-wing or rotary-wing aircraft, ship, truck, or train.
Yes. The BLU-MED® Hard-Wall Operating Room is a solid-wall, positive-pressure room installed within a climate-controlled medical shelter. It can operate as a stand-alone surgical facility, integrate with a field hospital, or retrofit a compatible BLU-MED® medical shelter.
The BLU-MED® EXT™ Medical Trailer System is a towable, self-contained medical response system with a 14- or 20-foot trailer, built-in generator and fuel tank, deployable shelter, flooring, lighting, electrical distribution, HVAC, beds, and privacy curtains. A negative-pressure option is available with the 20-foot system.
Negative Pressure Isolation and Infectious Disease Response
A negative pressure isolation room uses controlled airflow so air moves into the patient-care space instead of escaping to surrounding areas. BLU-MED® systems combine a medical shelter, environmental control, filtered exhaust or recirculation, pressure monitoring, an isolation area, and an anteroom to support airborne-infection isolation.
A typical system includes a BLU-MED® medical shelter, environmental control unit, ducting and plenum, HEPA and UV-equipped air scrubber, negative-pressure sensor and alarm, isolation partition and anteroom, flooring, lighting, and electrical distribution. Airflow and filtration requirements match the facility configuration.
Yes. A retrofit kit is available for compatible BLU-MED® medical shelters and mobile hospitals. The kit can include the air scrubber, HEPA and UV germicidal filtration, air ducts, isolation partition, and negative-pressure sensor and alarm.
Yes. BLU-MED® negative-pressure isolation facilities can provide rapidly deployable space for screening, isolation, and treatment during an Ebola response. Responsible medical and public-health authorities must establish the facility layout, infection-control procedures, staffing, personal protective equipment, waste handling, and clinical protocols.
Yes. A BLU-MED® patient isolation shelter or isolation ward can add negative-pressure capacity for patients with measles when permanent airborne-infection isolation rooms are limited. Clinical teams remain responsible for placement, airflow verification, infection-control procedures, and patient care.
Yes. BLU-MED® medical facilities can add screening, triage, treatment, and inpatient space during influenza and RSV surges. Negative-pressure rooms may be incorporated when required by the healthcare organization’s infection-control plan, while other modules can support general patient overflow.
Yes. BLU-MED® medical shelters and mobile hospitals equipped with negative-pressure systems can provide separate space for screening, evaluating, isolating, and treating patients during outbreaks of airborne infectious diseases, including COVID-19, SARS, RSV, influenza, measles, and tuberculosis. This added capacity can help hospitals reduce the risk of transmission and preserve existing clinical areas for other patient care.
Hospital Surge, Disaster Response, and Specialty Facilities
A BLU-MED® medical facility can be installed near a hospital to add space for patient screening, triage, emergency care, intensive care, surgery, isolation, inpatient care, or pharmacy services. The modular layout can be expanded or reconfigured as demand changes.
Yes. BLU-MED® deployable medical facilities can function as alternate care sites when a community needs temporary capacity outside a permanent hospital. The site can be configured for focused services or a broader mix of clinical and support functions.
Mobile medical facilities can support response to hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, wildfires, disease outbreaks, humanitarian crises, mass-casualty incidents, and other emergencies that damage infrastructure or create a rapid increase in patients.
Yes. BLU-MED® medical shelters can be equipped with integrated lighting, electrical distribution, flooring, and other interior systems required for the medical mission. The shelters can also connect to and be supported by environmental control units (ECUs), generators, fuel storage, water and hygiene systems, and other infrastructure needed for operations at remote or utility-limited sites.
Yes. The BLU-MED® Deployable Morgue is a mobile, expandable facility for victim storage, processing, and post-mortem work during mass-fatality incidents. A standard system provides 650 square feet of holding and workspace, capacity for up to 24 victims, and self-contained power and HVAC.
Planning, Procurement, and Support
Some BLU-MED® systems, including the BLU-MED® EXT™ Medical Trailer System, are available for rent or purchase. Availability, lead time, included equipment, and commercial terms depend on the system and current inventory.
Requirements vary by facility size and mission. Planning typically covers a reasonably level site, access for delivery vehicles, drainage, anchoring, power and fuel, water and sanitation, communications, security, patient flow, and connections to local healthcare operations.
Yes. BLU-MED® can configure shelter sizes, clinical modules, beds, partitions, privacy curtains, flooring, lighting, electrical systems, environmental control, filtration, storage, staff support, and equipment packages around the intended mission.
For a quote, please provide the intended use, required bed capacity or floor area, clinical functions, isolation needs, destination, desired deployment date, expected operating period, climate, available utilities, transport constraints, staffing assumptions, and any equipment or installation support needed.
